Fat, just like protein and carbohydrates is essential to our diet as it helps in fueling our body with energy. Certain bodily functions also rely on the presence of fat. For example, some vitamins require fat in order to dissolve into our bloodstream and provide nutrients. However, the excess calories from eating too much fat of any type can lead to weight gain. Most foods and oils contain a mixture of fatty acids, but the predominant type of fat they contain is what makes them either good or bad.

For example, saturated and trans fat have been identified as potentially harmful to our heart. Most of the foods that contain these types of fats are solid at room temperature. Saturated fats are most often found in animal products such as

  • Fatty beef
  • Lamb
  • Pork
  • Poultry with skin
  • Beef fat
  • Butter
  • Cheese and more…

In this post, we shall be looking at some types of fat that most people take for granted, yet could turn to bad fats as a result of the way we handle them.

Stock Or Broth

For most cooks, no dish is complete without Stock or broth. From chicken to turkey, to beef, to bone broths, they all play such an important role in cooking, so much so that nothing can be done without them. Stock or broth in your kitchen is like a magic bullet that turns every food around with irresistible taste and aroma especially soups, stews, gravies, rice dishes etc. Do you also know that your stock or broth has some health benefits like supplying your body with amino acids and minerals?

You can also drink your broth to help your digestion, so your body can absorb more nutrients. As a matter of fact, stock or broth can be purchased separately in some leading or health stores.

For me, chicken and beef stocks are a must in my refrigerator because they help me with quick recipes, so it’s always handy. However, as healthy as your stock might be, it’s no good news to know that it also contains high fats that you don’t need if you are trying to lose weight and I repeat “if you are trying to lose weight”

The fat in our stocks and broths

Just Imagine all this fat evenly distributed around your waist, your hips, your thighs and your arms on regular bases, I know you wouldn’t like that.
